FAQs

  • Will my insurance cover my sessions?
Our counselling therapists are registered with the College of Alberta Psychologists or Alberta College of Social Workers, and most insurance companies will cover sessions with these professionals. However, we always encourage you to check with your provider to determine what coverage you have for Psychological Services with a Registered Psychologist or Registered Master Level Social Worker.
  • Do you direct bill to insurance companies?
Many of our therapists provide direct billing to major insurance companies. If this is not available, we provide receipts to submit for reimbursement where applicable. We are happy to help you navigate insurance coverage for therapy services in Fort McMurray. Here is a list of insurance providers that we direct bill to: Alberta Blue Cross, AGA Financial Group inc., Beneva, BPA - Benefit Plan Administrators, Canada Life, Canada Life - PSHCP, Canadian Construction Workers Union, Chambers of Commerce Group Insurance Plan, CINUP, ClaimSecure, Coughlin & Associates Ltd., D.A. Townley, Desjardins Insurance, Equitable, First Canadian, Green Shield Canada, GroupHEALTH (Psychologist only), GroupSource (Psychologist only), Industrial Alliance, Johnson Inc., Johnston Group, LiUna Local 183, LiUna Local 506, Manion (Psychologist only), Manitoba Blue Cross, Manulife Financial, Maximum Benefit, MDM Insurance Services, Medic Construstion, NIHB - Non-Insured Health Benefits, People Corporation, RWAM Insurance Administrators (Psychologist only), Simply Benefits, SSQ Insurance, Telus AdjudiCare, Union Benefits, UV Insurance (Psychologist only)
  • How do I book an appointment?
    Click right here!
  • What if I want services for myself in addition to family or couples counselling?
Our team offers a range of therapy and counselling services in Fort McMurray and Wood Buffalo. If you're looking for individual support alongside family or couples counselling, our administrative team can help connect you with an available therapist who specializes in the type of counselling you need.
  • Are there flexible options for in-person, virtual, or phone sessions?
Yes. We offer flexible therapy options, including in-person sessions in Fort McMurray, as well as virtual and phone counselling services when appropriate. The choice of format is made collaboratively between you and your therapist to best support your needs.
  • How do I know which therapist is right for me?
Finding the right therapist can be a lot like going shoe shopping. You may need to try a few before you find the right fit! One place to start is reading through some therapist bios here to determine if their approach may be for you. Sometimes it takes meeting for a first session (called an ‘intake’) to get a feel of what the environment will be like before you really know if the fit is right. If you don’t feel the fit is right, we encourage you to discuss this with your therapist, as they may be able to support you in a referral to someone else. At YMM Collaborative Practice, our goal is to help you find the right mental health support in Fort McMurray and Wood Buffalo to start your journey toward healing.
  • What if I need to cancel or reschedule an appointment?
We know things come up, and a change in appointment time may be necessary. Please contact our clinic as soon as possible. You may cancel through our online scheduling system here or email your therapist directly. While we know emergency situations can come up, we remind everyone of our 24-hour notice for cancelling appointments. Late cancellation or no-show appointments will result in a charge for the full session.
  • How long are therapy sessions?
A standard session is 60 minutes, of which 50 minutes are face-to-face and 10 minutes are spent on documentation and treatment planning for your next session. We also offer extended sessions that are 75 or 90 minutes in duration, as many find a benefit in a longer treatment. You can discuss extended session options with your therapist or book them online.
